Please consider removing static volumes in the upstream COM container.  They could still be implemented as run-time bind-mounted volumes.  By declaring a volume in the upstream container, downstream containers are impacted from dynamically manipulating config files as part of the downstream container build process (since these files now live outside the container).  It also creates run-time dependencies on docker hosts, which makes cloud deployment more difficult.
